2008 The Chronicles of Narnia II

 Prince Caspian.
The second movie of the Chronicles of Narnia was Prince Caspian, another of the brilliant stories by CE Lewis. NZ Post released this issue of four values, again showing key scenes from the movie.
Stamp issues on movies filmed in New Zealand have become popular with both stamp collectors and movie buffs. This issue prove no exception.

50c – The Pevensies.
A year has passed since the amazing events of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe and the four Pevensie children, Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy, are back living in London. Their lives change in an instant when they are catapulted from an English railway station back to Narnia, where their help is desperately needed by a prince in trouble.
The picture on the 50c value shows the four children, back in Narnia, playing in the water.

$1.00 – Queen Susan.
They spy the ruins of a castle on the hill above them and decide to explore. Susan finds a golden chess piece and realises they are standing in their former palace 1,300 Narnia-years later. This leads them to their old weapons such as Peter's sward and Susan's bow as can be seen on the $1.00 value.

$1.50 – High King Peter.
As the eldest Pevensie, Peter is the natural choice for leader – an appointment helped by his serious and fair-minded nature, and his experience in keeping the family peace. Peter soon shows his bravery by challenging King Miraz, a merciless tyrant who is determined to deprive Prince Caspian of his rights and see his new-born son succeed to the throne.

$2.00 – Prince Caspian.
Prince Caspian is the rightful heir to the throne of Narnia but he is in great danger.  Surviving an assassination attempt, he’s forced into hiding then to battle against his evil uncle. Desperate for help, he calls for the Pevensies using Susan's horn. Together with raise a small army of Narnian creatures they fight to restore peace to the land. Facing apparently insurmountable odds that test their faith and their courage as never before, they succeed in defeating King Miraz and his mighty army.

First Day Covers & Miniature Sheets.
To me one of the things that made this issue stand out was the Miniature Sheets and First Day Covers. The Prince Caspian issue included five first day covers – one featuring the four stamps and the others the four miniature sheets, depicting High King Peter, Queen Susan, Prince Caspian and the four Pevensie siblings. Together, they make a fine collection, and are a perfect memento of what was one of the 2008s most popular movies.
