1970 Definitive / Pictorials - Part Four.

 Definitive Tour.

Flaws & Errors - Larger Values.
This page is going to be a lot smaller than the previous page due to the fact there are less larger value stamps and we found a lot less errors on these stamps as well. This could partly be due to the fact that smaller quantities of many of these values were produced.

          1970 Definitive / Pictorials - Part Five.
Some other items of interest including a collection of courier tags.

10c Queen Elizabeth II & Coat of Arms - Normal Example.
A small collection of flaws found on the 10c value.
(Some of these images have come out dull due to the photographic process used, its not the stamps.)

1970 10c QEII Flaw on Queen's head.                                               1970 10c QEII Light blue ribbon colour shift.

1970 10c QEII Offset silver colour.                                                         1970 10c QEII red ribbon omitted.

1970 10c QEII Silver arms shift downwards.                                                   1970 10c QEII Vertical Perf shift upwards.

        1970 10c QEII , Bright-blue ribbon omitted.                                     1970 10c QEII , Dark-blue Queen's head omitted.

1970 10c QEII , Silver Arms omitted completely.

15c - Fish Hook. (Normal Example)

1970 Pictorials 15c Fish Hook, two examples of the black colour shifted upwards.

1970 Pictorials 15c Fish Hook with major upward colour shift of black hook.

Left hand pair - 1970 Pictorials 15c Fish Hook the value corner selvage pair with blue printers ink marks. I am unsure how blue ink got to be anywhere near these stamps since blue is not part of the design.

Right hand pair - 1970 Pictorials 15c Fish Hook a damaged or worn plate has caused white makes to appear across these stamps.

18c - Maori War Club.
(Normal Example)

1970 Pictorials 18c Maori Club block of 6 where the top row has multiple black lines through design of each stamp caused by the doctor blade.

1970 Pictorials 18c Maori Club Selvage Block of 4 with a black doctor blade flaw that appears as a light shading over the left hand stamps.

Left hand stamp - 1970 Pictorial 18c Maori Club with major brown shift to right.

Right hand stamp - 1970 Pictorial 18c Maori Club with huge black colour shift upwards.

Left-hand stamp - 1970 Pictorials 18c Maori Club. The black is missing from this stamp which omits the name 'New Zealand' and all the carving details of the club. This changes the look of the stamp so much.

Right-hand stamp - 1970 Pictorials 18c Maori Club. Black and brown colours offset on back.

1970 Pictorials 18c Maori Club pair, where the right-hand stamp has two large printing flaws. Up in the top right corner a smaller one can be seen near the edge of the design that appears to effect the green background. On the club is a much larger flaw, very noticeable that appears to be in the brown.

20c - Maori Moku - Tattoo.
(Normal Example)

1970 20c Maori Tattoo black colour shift to left, a major shift of 5mm. You can see that it now partly covers the value and "New Zealand." There are many different examples of this shift with larger or smaller movements but not any other flaws that we have found.

23c - Egmont National Park.
(Normal Example)

1970 Pictorials 23c with a large print flaw over WZ of New Zealand. It appears to be a drop of something like solvent that landed on the plate so it won't except the black colour.

1970 Pictorials 23c Egmont National Park vertical pair with a dragged mark in the blue print effecting both stamps.

1970 Pictorials 23c Egmont National Park, block of 4 stamps. The right two stamps have white print flaws caused by dirt on the plate.

25c - Hauraki Gulf Maritime Park.
(Normal Example)

1970 Pictorials 25c Hauraki Gulf Maritime Park with a large perferation shift removing the lower part of the design including the wording giving the name of the park.

30c - Mt Cook National Park.
(Normal Example)

1970 Pictorials 30c Mount Cook National Park, 2 different single stamps showing flaws caused by dirt on the printing plate. I was kind of amused that the catalogue called these "UFO flaws." It is possible that this is the same piece of dirt that has moved slightly during the printing process.

50c - Abel Tasman National Park.
(Normal Example)

Left hand stamp - 1970 Pictorials 50c Abel Tasman National Park, the buff sea has been omitted.

Right hand stamp - 1970 Pictorials 50c Abel Tasman National Park, dark green headland on the left side has shifted upwards leaving a gap between the sea and the headland.

Left hand stamp - 1970 Pictorials 50c Abel Tasman National Park, the light green headland on the right side has shifted up leaving a white gap between the sea and the headland.

Right hand stamp - 1970 Pictorials 50c National Park,  now the light green headland on the right has been omitted completely.

$1 - Geothermal Power.
(Normal Example)

We do not have any examples of errors in this stamp yet.

$2 - Agricultural Technology.
(Normal Example)

1970 Pictorials $2.00 Technology with a Dr Blade flaw in top selvage. There are very few errors known on this stamp, mainly because due to its higher value not so many were printed. Of course many of these stamps would have gone overseas as well.
