I'm not as experienced with collecting postage stamps having just recently started a collection on thematic New Zealand Farming stamps. In fact, there is an early post in this blog where in the comments I refer to one of the rarest stamps of New Zealand as a scruffy bit of paper. LOL But things change, we learn and grow so now I write some of the easier posts here. I wanted to try something harder and so Allan suggested I try this one.
First I just copied what Allan had written on them in the Main Health Stamp collection, found in this link 1931 Health Issue, then I continued to build on his work with more items, more researched details and my own ideas. Forgeries

Hi, Asami here.
Forgeries:- They are around and those without experience can get caught. These images were sent to us from one of our readers. He purchased them and he wishes we will display them as a warning to others. I have been asked to do a page on them as others are busy on other projects.

        The story is that a comment was left on our page 1949 - 1952 Cancelled Royal Visits. The reader said he had discovered these stamps in a collection book and he was trying to establish if they were real or forgeries.

The Theme of this issue is - Being Active.

         The 2016 Children’s Health stamps show how Kiwi kids can easily embrace a healthy and active lifestyle through regular daily exercise. Just 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous activity every day is all it takes for kids to build strong, healthy bodies and minds, and friendships too. Whether it’s walking or biking to school, playing sports at lunchtime or climbing the jungle gym – it’s all doable in a day for our kids at play!
          This beautifully illustrated stamp issue consists of three stamps that show children in simple, everyday play. Each stamp represents one of the three key areas of exercise that help keep children healthy: aerobic activity, strength building and flexibility. Together, the three stamps form a seamless illustrated image, shown above and in the collectables further down this post. I like the way the children appear more lifelike and natural.

           Ten cents from the sale of each stamp in this issue goes directly to Stand Children’s Services Tu Maia Whanau (formerly known as Children’s Health Camps). The stamps help to aid the valuable service that Stand provides to children and their families in need around New Zealand.
           New Zealand Post has been a proud supporter of Children’s Health Camps not missing a single yearly issue since they began in 1929. You will find a complete set of all of these issues, including this one, in the indexed pages above.

Children's Health - Being Sun Smart.

          With New Zealand's clear, unpolluted skies, our outdoor lifestyle, ozone depletion, and a latitude that puts us closer to the sun in summer, ‘Being SunSmart’ is an important part of the New Zealand way of life.

          The 2015 Children’s Health stamps embraced the SunSmart principles of Slip, Slop, Slap & Wrap. New Zealand has always had a love affair with the sun, but in the 1980s it became apparent that this had to change. Our national melanoma rates were doubling every ten years, so as a nation we had to learn how to be SunSmart. It’s important not only for adults to embrace being SunSmart, but to teach our children how to be SunSmart too.

          Each stamp highlights one of the four key SunSmart messages that have been a part of our lives for more than 30 years - Slip, Slop, Slap and Wrap! New Zealand kids can still enjoy summer - as long as they stay SunSmart!

         The story of this issue begins much earlier on the 25th November 1919 when a Wanganui School Medical Officer, Dr Elizabeth Gunn, took 55 children to a farm near Marton, where they camped for three weeks under canvas. The camp was a great success so she continued with these camps each year up until 1930. Others around New Zealand took up the idea as well which became the beginning of Health Camps in New Zealand.

2014 Health Issue



Teaching children to grow their own fruits and vegetables not only benefits their health and well-being, it gives them positive attitudes towards healthy foods as well as a sense of pride and accomplishment. The 2014 Children’s Health stamp issue celebrates these foods that fuel the New Zealanders of tomorrow.

The 2014 Health Issue is special in that it marks the 85th year since Health Stamps were first issued. The series has come a long way and changed a lot since then. Health Stamps have contributed greatly to children's health over the years and continues to do so with every stamp sold this year providing 10c for Health.

        Thousands of New Zealand children grow up on farms and in the country, and the 2013 Children's Health stamp issue celebrates the unique ways of life of these children and their pets. I can relate to this since I grew up on a small farm, actually the one I own today. You will find a picture of us kids with our pets at the bottom of this post. We also had the usual dogs, cats, lambs, pigs, even gecko lizard which would be illegal today. Ringo, my pet gecko actually turned out to be a female when she had babies. LOL. 
          On 18 April 2013, Te Puna Whaiora Children’s Health Camps launched its new name, Stand Children’s Services, Tu Maia Whanau. Stand Children’s Services aims to nurture the dreams and aspirations of our nation’s children, allowing them to find their turangawaewae, their 'place to stand’
