For the first time the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge go on an official Royal Tour as a married couple. They will be accompanied by their young son Prince George. Part of their time on tour will be spent in various parts of New Zealand.
Prince William will be acting on behalf of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, as her representative so New Zealand will consider him in the same official capacity as they would the Queen. It will be Catherine's first visit to this country.
To mark this important royal event, NZ Post will be issuing two values on the 7th of April. This issue will also include a First Day Cover a special cancel strike. The designs showed two lovely photos of the royal couple with their baby. (You may wish to visit my post '2013 Prince George of Cambridge.')
During this Royal Visit of 2014 our thoughts go back to an earlier tour when Prince Charles, the Princess of Wales and a young William visited in March and April of 1983. Who will forget that moment when a crawling William made a grasp at a traditional New Zealand toy, the buzzy bee.
Front page of the New Zealand Herald - 1983.
That moment when Prince William reached for the Buzzy Bee.
Now we have come a full circle, Prince William is bringing his wife and child to visit New Zealand. It will be an important tour for both and country and for this young royal family. Over recent years William has been seen to breath fresh air on a new more open and casual monarchy.

You were quick getting that one up, Allan.
ReplyDeleteIt was only announced a few days ago.
John.
Even quicker than you think John.
DeleteI saw the announcement in the Western Leader, at a friends house this afternoon. I went looking for it at NZ Post this evening. Got some more I want to do with the page but it will do for now until I can get back to it.
Allan
These are nice stamps Allan. They have such lovely photographs.
ReplyDeleteWhere can I buy some from? I also saw you have the Prince George ones from 2013. Can these still be brought as well?
Reshma?
Thanks Reshma
DeleteYou can't buy them yet. Not until the 7th of April. Most Post shops of go to http://stamps.nzpost.co.nz/
As for the 2013 set. NZ Post still has those on sale. If not I can recommend a stamp dealer.
Allan
Do you sell these stamps Allan?
DeleteKirsten.
No Kirsten,
DeleteI am not a stamp dealer. I just collect stamps and enjoy them.
I want to share this enjoyment with others.
Allan
I like the baby photos. George looks so cute. Looking forward to his visit over here next.
ReplyDeleteThat one is him reaching for the toy so good too.
Janet.
Hi Janet,
DeleteThanks for your comment. Yes I am following the Royal Visit closely too.
They are heading for Australia next but I doubt they will be coming anywhere near your place.
Oh that photo, read the caption underneath. It is actually Prince William in 1983. Sorry if I confused you there.
Allan
Opps!
DeleteI should be reading the fine print. LOL
Janet.
